KepBeach was once a rather drab stretch of grey sand, but is now a sparkling white beach thanks to an ambitious import of sand from nearby Kampot, which has sand but no beach. Despite having to be regularly topped up, KepBeach is now a sunbather’s paradise.
Since French colonists chose Kep-sur-Mer as a holiday destination in 1908, this sleepy seaside town has welcomed discerning tourists. In its heyday in the 1950s and 1960s, flashy sports cars, risqué bikinis and lavish villas rang with laughter and the clinking of champagne glasses.
